Welcome to the new home of the Nebraska State Genealogical Society.  A lot of effort has gone into the design and functionality of our new website. As you browse around the site you will notice there are still quite a few items that need to be updated. ACHS wins case to get Hastings Regional Center burial records. |

The Adams County Historical Society has won a multiyear battle and lawsuit to obtain photocopies of the "Cemetery Records" and the corresponding plot maps for the individuals buried at the Hastings Regional Center. It is estimated that approximately 957 patient burials took place between the 1890's and 1959. The Adams County Historical Society began the long and arduous court process several years ago simply to receive a list of names and dates of the people buried at the hospital cemetery. In the end, ACHS received photocopies of the handwritten records which contains an alphabetical listing of the names of the patients, their death date and the hospital case number...all of which corresponds to a marker in the hospital cemetery. No additional information is provided with this data.
Adams County Historical Society Executive Director, Catherine Renschler, is also a Charter Member and the current Area 14 Representative for the Nebraska State Genealogical Society. Catherine has spent a tremendous amount of time and effort trying to get these burial records opened for public access. We are thrilled to see her succeed.

Family Association Hosting |

The Nebraska State Genealogical Society has secured enough disk space on their server to start offering Family Association website hosting. Policies are being developed and will be posted soon.

NSHS to Close During 2009-11 |

Beginning January 2009, the Nebraska State Historical Society (NSHS) headquarters at 1500 R will be undergoing a two-year renovation project to bring life/safety and HVAC conditions up to current standards. Researchers planning to work with collections housed in the facility should take note that there will be extended time periods during 2009-2011 that the Reference Room WILL BE CLOSED and that research materials will be unavailable. Some telephone reference will be available during the closure.
